BASS PRESSURE IS BACK

BassPressure.net is here with a new look and purpose. We've decided to shift the focus of BassPressure.net from the radio show to becoming a source of information on breakbeat-based music, mainly Breaks, Hip Hop and Jungle/DnB.
This will be accomplished through interviews with DJs, producers and labelheads from all three genres, as well as mixes celebrating the breakbeat and exploring new terrain. We also plan on integrating contributions from players throughout the scenes in the form of opinion and tech articles, as well as music reviews and any other good shit that comes up. For any questions or comments about the site or its content, send an email here - enjoy...

WHAT'S INSIDE

New year come and gone, and things are back up and rolling. This month we've got a brand new interview with UK DnB duo Cyantific (Hospital/UK), so check out the chat for some info on their debut album. There are also new chats coming soon and a new label profile interview is in the works. More on that later. The interview archive is completed going back to the beginning of 2004 and I'm also going to be posting more of the older interviews here in the next few motnhs, in order to expand the archive. The "Empirical" mix is out now and you can find it under the "Mixes" section. There are also a few finished original tracks, so if we can sort it out we'll get some samples streaming.

You can find the chats here.

ARTIST INTERVIEW - Cyantific (UK)

Combining tough beats and smooth melodies, Cyantific are Jon & Matt, a duo hailing from Twickenham, England. Signed to Hospital Records in 2002, the sounds of Cyance have rolled out nicely with a slew of singles and remix work. In between touring and compiling a Hospital promo mix, Cyantific are set to release their first full length album, "Ghetto Blaster", at the end of March. BP caught up with Jon for some info...

LABEL PROFILE - Hardcore Projektz (UK)

If you do your homework and trace the history of breaks you'll find that it all starts in 1990 with Hardcore. Over fifteen years later, the sound of oldskool breaks is alive and well with a dedicated group of labels pushing this new blend of Hardcore sounds and new breakbeat methods and technology. We caught up with Darkus, head of the Hardcore Projektz label, for a chat on how the oldskool sound fits in with breaks today and what he's doing to let you know all about the sound you should've heard a long time ago...

NOVEMBER 2005 - "Empirical"

This post has been up since the website was put back up a few months ago, but now we finally have something to offer for it. After 5 months of on-and-off editing and tweaking, "Empirical" is now done and available for download in 128kbps MP3 format. The final mix features 26 tracks and over 40 other samples...The theme behind "Empirical" is to showcase the breakbeat in its many forms as heard throughout hip-hop, jungle, breaks, glitch and DnB - as well as moving away from a "promo-only" mindset towards content and featuring tracks dating as far back as 1994. Click on the pic to the left to enjoy the mix and any and all feedback is welcomed.

To inquire about submitting a mix to be featured on BP or about airing a Bass Pressure mix, send an email here and you'll get all the info.

MUSIC REVIEWS & ARTICLES

Music often promotes discussions, some of them pretty heated and logical, others quite lame. However, open discussion is a key to moving a sound and scene forward; plus artists and fans should be allowed to voice an opinion, popular or not. Over time this section will be home to articles and reviews concerning all types of music and scenes, and hopefully some of the opinions expressed will get people thinking and talking...the reviews will try to stick close to newly-released music, but from time to time a classic album will be revisted and explored with the idea of re-introducing quality sounds. The articles section will featured pieces written by DJs, producers and labelheads throughout the scenes; the goal is for a wide range of viewpoints and topics...
